Dear Members and Friends of Sail Parry Sound,
We hope all of you are safe and healthy throughout this unprecedented situation dealing with COVID-19. A month has passed since our last communication, and we are still not in a place where we definitively know everything that will happen this summer. Obviously, as a province, we have done a good job with our physical distancing and hand washing over the past couple of months, as we have managed to flatten that curve. Unfortunately, the virus continues to be a real and present danger to our collective good health.
As a result, we are still awaiting decisions from the provincial government about whether day camps will be part of the re-opening stage we are now within. Further to that decision, we would also require the approval from the Town of Parry Sound and the local public health agency. The Board of Directors of Sail Parry Sound, have decided that while we wait for these government decisions, we will suspend the current sailing school registrations, and refund those that have already registered.
Should we get the green light from the government and from the local public health agency to operate this summer, it is ultimately the Board’s decision to determine if we can do so safely. In addition, it would be a very different program compared to past years, and the fee structure and dates would also have to change.
If you are able to maintain your membership fee, it would be much appreciated, and we will refund the sailing school registration fee. Your membership covers the mandatory Ontario Sailing and Sail Canada fees required by all sailing schools, supports our national athletes and are vital for our operational costs, maintaining our fleet and the upkeep of our premises.
All of our July events at this time are suspended, as we are under the restriction of no more than 5 people at a gathering. Our boathouse will remain closed. If you should come by our property, please follow all of the physical distancing protocols and wear the appropriate personal protective equipment.
As announcements come forward, and protocols change, the board will re-visit the operating discussion and will send out further communication through email, and our social media.
Please stay safe and remember we are all in this together and we look forward to the opportunity to see you all again soon!
If you have any questions, please contact our manager, Michelle Deaust.
